The Union Cabinet approved the National Green Hydrogen Mission with an initial outlay of ₹19,744 crore. The overarching objective is to achieve a green hydrogen production capacity of at least 5 Million Metric Tonnes (MMT) per annum by 2030, with an associated renewable energy capacity addition of about 125 GW.
Core Sub-Programs
- SIGHT (Strategic Interventions for Green Hydrogen Transition): Financial incentives for domestic manufacturing of high-efficiency electrolyzers (₹4,440 crore) and green hydrogen production (₹13,050 crore).
- Green Hydrogen Hubs: Development of identified maritime and industrial zones capable of handling large-scale production and export logistics.
- Regulatory Standards & Pilot Projects: Pilot pipelines for steel manufacturing, heavy long-haul mobility, and shipping decarbonization.
Expected Outcomes by 2030
The mission targets over ₹8 lakh crore in total investments, creation of over 6 lakh clean energy jobs, and cumulative reduction of ₹1 lakh crore in fossil fuel imports alongside abatement of nearly 50 MMT of annual greenhouse gas emissions.
